Psychological health and exposure to nature

There are many studies that have demonstrated that exposure to nature can:

Lower stress hormones, i.e., cortisol

Attain better sleep

Enhance vigor

Restore attention and attain mindfulness

Enhance positive emotions such as calmness & happiness

Lower negative emotion such as irritation, anxiety, and depression

Reduce ruminations

Nature-based healing studies

There are a number of meta-analyses and systematic reviews demonstrating that a structured program in nature can lower anxiety-depression, reduce stress, and enhance personal well-being.  These programs are of varied durations, but in general they are comprised of immersing participants in nature and facilitating active interaction with nature.
