Online therapy is becoming more and more popular in because of modern lifestyles and familiarization with computers and apps. Dr. Yeung conducts therapy online in accordance with the Hong Kong Institute of Clinical Psychologists’ (HKICP) Clinical Practice Recommendations for Telehealth Psychological Services.
Strengths and weaknesses of online psychotherapy
Online psychotherapy allows for quick and flexible scheduling of interviews, saves time for traveling, and increases ease of expression for some clients because they are in a familiar place (e.g. their home or office). In addition, it can provide the clinical psychologist information of the living or working environment of the client, as well as their usual behavioral and expression style.
However, online psychotherapy requires clients to choose a venue that is private and confidential. It also requires clients to apply more effort in revealing themselves (as the screen may limit the clinical psychologist’s observations). For those that want to opt for online psychotherapy, please call to discuss options.
